Hi to everyone here
My daughter has been spinning Poi Poi since the summer and I'm impressed with how good she's getting - I'm not yet so good, but I enjoy it and she's happy to teach me new moves as she picks them up.
I've been involved in researching exercises that help kids with co-ordination and learning problems in the past and I think Poi Poi are a great idea for kids with problems with either. The moves naturally create a brain balanced form of exercise - getting the right and left sides of the brain working together - and it's such fun that kids are likely to keep it up, which has always been a problem with the more routine and boring brain gym type exercises.
This site has been a great find for me and I'm happily recommending it for kids and adults alike. Great service and a great range of poi related products. Thanks.

Poi does improve your coordination and spatial awareness. It also makes your shoulders arms and wrists alot more flexible (and with heavier heads) and stronger.

I'm a primary school teacher, and I am absolutely going to get some poi into my children's curriculum! I think it's good for skills.. children love performing when they are young and it helps thir self esteem. I looked after teenagers for the summer at a camp, and I made poi converts out of several!

I did indeed and found it interesting. My children are a bit too young for it at the moment, and the National Curriculum and schools can be quite prescriptive in what they allow you to do. Eventually I'd like to do it extra curricularly... for the fun as much as the learning stuff!

on the subject of children and poi, i have a little sis who is 11 and a little bro who is 3, and my sis has taken a keen interest in poi and to be fair she is gettin good she can 3bt, open her weaves, butterfly and a few variations. however she seems to get fustrated with them very easily and throws em on the floor, my little bro has also picked em up and can swing them sometimes even in a butterfly pattern obviously he doesnt know he is doin it but i just think it is wicked that he takes an interest not only in poi but everything everytime i do cj or devil stick he asks me for a go. i also feel that if children this young are getting into it how good are they gonna be when they are our age?? and i for one am definatly goin to introduce poi to my children at an age where they can absorb it and when they get older they can make there own decision about it. but yeh jus wondered ppl's views on it really?

poi in schools would be amazing! back in the day we always used to love performing arts like dancing, as ell as the acting and the music, and yeah as you said earlier its fantastic for the co-ordination you get from it, sometimes i ask my friends to spin their arms in oposite directions and they just get absolutely flabbergasted, then i laugh, then they hit me, its a viscious cycle but i love it!
but seriously poi in schools would be great, its great for working the muscles in a way that doesnt make it feel like going to the gym every day! |
