i have had this idea for a while do you reckon it would be possible to make fire flags???
I worked out that you would have chain links making up a sqaure half to a quater smaller then the normal sized sqaure flags, then more chain would make up medium sized squares in the chain link square and then small wicks would be attached to all four outer edges running a couple of CMs apart and then one or two for each little sqaure..
edit-picture not working yet will try to get one up
(i will try and get the picture up but i am having some trouble...)
also the only way you could soak the wicks would be to dip the whole thing so spinning off would be a must. but i think it would look so cool with an experianced spinner at the controls.
what do you think, i did say my idea was insane |

i vaugely follow ur idea not sure aboutthe links off the main chain flag as it might end up bulky the way im thinking and if u hung wick around the edge u'd get a hole at th bottum of ur flag where the mnain chain bit is. main worry tho i recon would be the heat to make a convincing enough flag u'd probably eithere need a mod wick or like 6 normal ones of varing sizes.
(humm this is difficult 2 figure out) i supose ur aiming for a flag like shape with fire for tatery edges? sounds cool tho im not sure how ud do it or how sake itd be
gud luck ^_^ |

You also gotta consider how much this is going to weigh when constructed. I mean you have the weight of all the proposed chain, the weight of the Kevlar and then you gotta think about the weight when it's soaked in fuel!
You don't want peoples arms to die as they swing this deadly beast around hehehe:P But I'm liking this idea tho! |

LED flags sound cool, you could make them like rope lights but thinner and maybe have a button to turn it on and off...
As for making a proto type i am trying but i do need the talents of someone who can weld and such like.. i am going to look at it after xmas, when i have the time and the pennies. so watch this space... |

Insane ideas are the best kind!
Sadly, I've thought about this one, and I'm pretty sure a fire flag wouldn't stay on fire long enough to be worth doing. All of that surface area and not too much fuel soaked in, means it would burn dry and start charring pretty quickly.
That said, if you wanna buy some kevlar fabric (available from online suppliers) and prove me wrong, please be my guest! |

| I've seen fire flags. big, unwieldy and dangerous. only the rim of the flag lit (thank goodness) creating a hollow square of fire. the flames are huge and require full flash protection to use including firemmans flash hood |

| for a led flag with a little effort u cud rig a set of fibers in a general flag shape (this would give a flag of whitish fibers and x lighting effect arond the end edges) <like those fiber lights. if u cut very small dips out of the fibes in a spiral all the way down the lenght of each fiver ud get awsome light effects tho how ud light its a bit of a mystery |
