I just discovered Poi and I just discovered this site.
I'm in the process of trying to figure out how to make my own set of poi to start practicing.
Are socks and a hackeysack a decent way to go? I'm just trying to figure out how to make hand-holder thingies for my fingers :-\ Any solutions on how I do that?
Will it be hard for me to transition from bean-sock poi to fire poi?
Anyway I'm just so excited to learn this! |

if ur making socks you dont need finger straps but yeh socks and a hacky sack are good or if ur a cheapo like me fill balloons with rice but make sure there the same weight. if you wanna make finger straps get a piece of strongish material about 15cm long and 2cm wide fold the 2 ends into the middle fix em on superglue or sewing is the best then glue the 2 loops together hope that made sense anyway welcome to poipoi the tuition here is mega so check it out and everyone on the forum will help as much as possible take it ez |

yo angel.
Yeah, socks dont need fingerstraps. You gonna take a while to get to fire so dont rush! Its so much better when you know what you're gonna do rather than just spinning it constantly in a weave heh.
When you do decide to get onto fire, maybe buy some non-socks? Or buy the fire poi and practice with them unlit for a few months. They look naff tho :P.
i use socks loads and i should really practice with my mouse poi (great set of poi) more as i always want to do wraps and tangles when i'm using fire, which is a no-no. |

you can do tangles and wraps with fire jus pracice doin em with chains i dont think its any diff but obviously only do when you are confindent spiral wraps can go very wrong and if you mess up a hyperloop you get a tangled mess of chain and more often than not have to put the poi out :( but yeh i do hyperloops and wraps when i spin so i think you will be able to jayne |

well you dont need gloves but that is personal preference but if your doin a spiral wrap make sure you wrap the chain once around the fingerstraps as it gives you more control i think u'll be reet! |
