I,ve Just Boughten A Set Of Fire Poi And Im Wondering Which Type Of Fuel Is Best To Spin With??? teufel

I use parrafin.

Its good, becuase it has a high flash point, which basically means that its hard to set on fire for example if a spark drops in your soaking tin.

OR you can use any candle fluid, but apparently this makes a dirtier flame (Thanks Jayne Wink

Yes, paraffin is the best fuel to use. Parasene does exactly the same job but is more expensive, candle fuel can be cheaper, but makes a icky flame, so paz paz paz all the way!

You can get it from hardware stores and get them to refill it for you. I got about 5l for £3.30. Not bad.

I was arguing with this annoying kid the other day who says he does poi (i dont dispute it, whether he does it well or often is the problem i have), and whilst he was trying to be cool and quizzing me about fire poi he asked what fuel I used.
I told him paraffin.
He told me that he was 'talking to the guy in Oddballs, and he said paraffin is really dangerous to use. I'm not going anywhere near you when you spin.'
So I just did it raised-eyebrow expression and said 'What do you feel is wrong with paraffin?' To which he told me it was explosive.
point 1 - paraffin is not explosive. The vapour may be 'expolsive' - but had a wonderfully high flash point as AJ said.

I then asked him what he thought was safe to use, and he confidently said 'Spirit'.

Needless to say, I'm never spinning with him.

my friend has some fire poi and we did some researching into what burnt the best and we found parrafin was the brightest, longest and all found best flame,

White spirits does work but we weren;t immpressed, ditto on meth spirits.

MEths is good if you want to add chemicals to change the colour of the flame. Because parrafin wont allow it to dissolve.

So it has its uses though. I wouldnt use white spirits

im a parrafin man myself, but only cause i can get clean good quality stuff for the cheap! i havent dabbelled in chemicle colouring yet.

In my oppinion if you just want to go fr regular spin with no colours or effects then definately go for the parrafin mate, its safer and i expect cheaper than most, im not sure how much kerosene is going for these days? plus it doesnt give off as much smoke as kerosene does; its a good flame as well i think

I only use meths when im chemical spinning to change the colour of the flame Smile

those chems arent approved, they just tell you what colour your flame goes if you use it
