| I think the barrel roll involves a certain amount of wrapping around your hands :S |

This is what i've got from the tuition videos.
Buzzsaw = Poi dont wrap around your arms, poi spin inbetween then in the middle of your chest. Poi won't tangle around your wrists.
Barrelroll = Poi spin around your wrists. From the looks of it, if your wrists dont move, then you'll have the poi tangle around them. |

if you want to see the difference look at the tuition videos!!
Buzzsaw: spinning the poi between your arms with your hands close together, so it looks like a buzzsaw with tailed poi, or a propellor with socks
Isolated Buzzsaw: You've probably all seen one but its a buzzsaw where the centre of rotation is changed to the centre of the poi 'string' or the centre of the sock, this is done by moving your hands in circles, and when done effectively looks like a big crank.
Barrel Rolls: Barrel rolls are the weave with an isolated buzzsaw in the middle, except your arms arent uncrossed. it gives the illusions of your wrists pushing the poi over, when in fact they hardly touch your wrists at all. EXCELLENT move. go learn it.
Another way to describe it would be a hyperloop without tangling the poi heh. |

Cheers J.
Our barrel roll tutorial is a little lacking, it seems less in depth as the others. I did actually think it was a wrap as you said.
Im gonna learn some iso moves soon. Iso buzzsaw me thinks. |

hehe i cracked barrel rolls last nite ^^ was really chuffed....
also got my 7 beat weave spot on ^^
and managed to get both sides of my body doing a 9 bt..... BUT i cant keep it up for long yet ^^
oooh btw... also managed 8 beat corksrew + windmill ^^
im very proud of myself haha :P
barrel rolls are HARD because in my oppinion you have to learn to isolate before you can perform them... as that is what they are....
there an iso buzzsaw.... but your hands cross each other rather than staying apart |

there is a huge difference between a buzzsaw and a barrel roll
A buzzsaw is just the poi moving between your arms.
A barrel roll is a way to transition from weave to inside and back out. When you get the barrel roll down right, you can weave to the right, wrap in the middle, come out to weave on the left, then beck to the middle, then back out to the right.
For this move, you do have to swing the poi up under your wrist and wrap around it to bring it to the middle. no wrapping contact is needed, you just need to move your wrists around each other.
It took a while for me to get the hang of it, the key is to really get that hand that is coming around to the middle first out quickly.
Maybe I can make a video of it

i cant crack the barrel roll!! i either whack myself in the left boob or end up in a giant knot involving 1 sock and 2 arms... (dont ask)
it is so frustrating... even if i shorten the poi or try it slowly it has no effect on boob whacking...! lol
i supose i just need 2 practise...
