I have no trouble with butterfly at all. That was the first tuition I watched and the first that I mastered in a heartbeat.
So when I saw thread the needle I was like "ooo no problem. Just butterfly with a variation".
HA! was I ever wrong.
I keep tangling EVERY time I try.
WHen I am watching the tuition video it looks like she is just slowly crossing bottom hand over top and then doing it again with the other hand (sorta like that 1960's swimming dance move where you swim swim swim and then scooba down to the floor holding your nose)
But in practice when I try to slide one hand in front of the other.. kabow.. there go the poi tangling or knocking into each other.
What am I doing wrong? Or is there another way to rethink this move? |

oh i imagine you're doing a butterfly in the direction that emma does on the video.
Imagine your poi are going round ONE clock circle in their butterflies. When your right hand gets to about 11, and your left to 1, push your right hand forward over the left arm.
Leave the poi out for a beat, and then when the poi get in the same poisition again (RH at 11, LH at 1, push your left hand forward. and bring your right hand back. As long as you dont do it too fast, every time one hand comes back it should go under the hand that is going forward and the poi will miss it completely.
You just have to look at the angles for a day or two lol. |

easiest way that i find to learn the thread the needle is rather than going into it from butterfly.... to just go straight into it...
there is two approaches to it... moving your hands a little... or moving them alot.... |

i find it easiest 2 teach TTN if i say that "when the poi are both moving downwards then Right hand should be moving forwards over the top of your Left wrist (actually crossing wrists) and the left should move backwards under for 1 revolution... then vice-versa for the next revolution"
so whenever the poi are moving down your wrists should cross over then uncross...
that actually sounds more complicated in writing than it does spoken!! oops!
try it and get back 2 me!

Granted....but the noobs would be forgetfull and ask you the same question everyday
Yeah I kinda understand this but my timing sucks a little and I end up with the opposite poi hitting the wrist each time, I think I got it but just need to adjust my timing.
What I got from this thread is to push forward when their at the top and cross back when their at the bottom.
Gonna try it with alternating hands, funny cos I managed to do the split TTN with no problems. |

| I cannot do this, just cannot, although only just started trying. After taking it between the legs, and having a sit down its time to try again. |

I see me boyfriend bent over in agony because he got himself in the nuts the other day. He was still complaining about it 3 hours later because he had to walk up some stairs.
My daughter who was watching thought it appropriate to start laughing after he left the room as it looked "pretty ouchie". |

Haha, generally its 'ok' if its just a little clip, but when its full pelt, sort of underneith, right in the "sack" thats when it hurts bad.
Yeah i have watched the tuition lots but just cant get it yet, but its all about practice. Would be good to meet some peple who can do it so they can actually see what im doing wrong. But yeah, back outside again now. |

Firstly, I have now got the action for TTN, just need to be able to do it pretty much forever without catching it. So far can do it 18 times without them clipping each other.
Secondly, | Quote: | | after 3months you will have balls of steel, if i catch myself now its like 'meh' n brush it off | - Isnt that called impotency? haha |

18 times is good man i would class that as pretty much nailed. My test for when i know something properly is if i can do the same trick 5 times in a row with my eyes closed. (hyperloops were the hardest) |
