Goldie, Spin and Gizmo (from DMP) are way up there, mainly because it was through watching them that I learned most of what I now know (and learned exactly how cool poi can look)! Others... Nick Woolsey and Yuta (from Playpoi)... Splinter (Emerald Circus)... Bluecat... Mr Chutney... I'm sure after I hang out here a bit more, I'll add a few of you guys to my list too.
For non-poi stuff, Brinechild is an inspiration ro any contact jugglers and Dave Aminal of freestyleforum.net is a lord of nunchuks.
There are so many great performers out there, and they all inspire me in different ways. Even total beginners can sometimes make you look at things with fresh eyes. That's one of the best things about poi!
Erm... turned into a bit of a ramble, that. Oops. |
im an inspiration?? jeez dude thanks
my current inspiration is ronan mcloughlin and alot of the BCCC crew, i guess my biggest though is my girlfriends critism, she constantly pushes me to do better things in the way i do poi and its moved my skill leaps and bounds i think.... hell have a look at my youtube vids... poi by moonlight was awful but i like to think the unnamed project was better:)
anywho...
What move is you favorite ?
wallplane isolations,
What move are you working on?
reverse 5bt weave and a wierd bouncing butterfly tangle that i know simply as the "nexus"
How long have you been a spinning?
about 16 months
What took you the longest to perfect?
flow... still working on it |

Man, with your enthusiasm, of course you are!
Plus, you always have some helpful criticism to give. I always appreciate that. |

Some of those DMP dudes on the vids are quite spunky (not saying which though).
Well in the here and now that is life, my friends Sue and Lucy inspire me but both for very different reasons. One is more my competitive streak, the other aims to drag someone else into this whole poi world that I love so much (to keep me interested in the future).
In the not so here and now of people who I haven't quite met yet, I have to say that Nik & Yuta are totally awesome but don't really inspire me. I see them more as an elite force.
The people that inspire me the most are probably right here on the Poi Poi Forum. More because everyone here is still learning themselves which is where the elites scare me a little.
Felixwah, Daedra, Doodles, Psychotic, AJ and everyone else who has given me great advice and wild chit chat.
Thanks you guys! |

Don't let the elite scare you. They're all lovely really.
I used to be just the same. These days, though I'm still a long way off being "elite", I've learned one big thing:
There's no such thing as being better than your fellow spinners - there's only learning how to avoid bruises and not caring if you look silly sometimes.

I used to worry that i looked stupid doing new things but then i worked out that we are ..
a. all new to something that someone else can do really well
b. that the 'elite' were once beginners too |

and the elite are still leaning themselves, and are more than happy to teach and are also willing to learn like everyone else, its why i love the spinning community, the majority dont judge, dont turn there nose up at you and are more than happy to help others learn is a winner |

Yeah for sure! I'm inclined to agree. Especially that Goldie guy, he's lush
As for the 'elite' thang well at the end of the day it's the same with anything in life "each one of us has something to teach and something to learn"
I don't spin poi I'm afraid I only dabble with them, I spin/roll around with a single staff though so I'll answer anyways
What move is you favorite ? Fishies
What move are you working on? Too many, my head hurts and so do my limbs
How long have you been a spinning? It has no relevance in my opinion but since you ask, since 2004
What took you the longest to perfect? Globetrotter
Since it's come up in above posts my biggest inspirations are Strugz, Bluecat, Noel-Ski, MCP and Sandy me thinks.
