I'm getting closer to getting this right. I can now nearly successfully switch one hand from top to bottom... The issue I'm coming across now is my poi tangling when I switch.

My goal was to have this learned by next Tuesday (already been working on it for quite a while), and I think I might meet that goal.
Check to see if there is an Ace hardware around where you live, they have a huge variety of ball chain sizes. If you already tried that or there aren't any local stores around you then twisted chain will work. Just make sure you add a swivel joint near your hand and/or the flags (I would suggest just the hand is fine) and you shouldn't have any problems.
_________________
'It is bitter -- [my heart is] bitter,' he answered,

Personally I use two fingers, but I have friends that use one. Its all about what you're comfortable with. Also I've seen some strange finger combinations when watching people spin.

So I say, if you like it do it.
_________________
'It is bitter -- [my heart is] bitter,' he answered,

Welcome to the world of poi! My first tip to you is before you get too far into buying anything you might not like using, just get some long socks with tennis balls in them and play around. There's lots of good videos all around the internet, including this site and homeofpoi.com. What I ended up doing since i didn't have any long socks if putting about a cup of rice in two regular sized socks and tying them off with sturdy shoe laces. From there I was able to figure out what length worked best for me, and which finger tab setup i liked best. From there I made my own set with airplane cable instead of chain, and I went to a hardware store and bought a welders blanket to cut up for the poi heads.
_________________
'It is bitter -- [my heart is] bitter,' he answered,

what I've found that works for me when learning the weave is when you look at people doing it you'll notice that whichever hand they start with, their other hand is doing the exact same motion, just a split second behind. So what I would do is while holding you non-dominant hand at your side with the poi ready to go, start doing the 3bt with your dominant hand. Once you have the motion down to where you can focus on other things, simply focus on your non-dominant hand following behind the dominant hand as if it were on a figure eight track.
_________________
'It is bitter -- [my heart is] bitter,' he answered,

Hi all just wondering where and how I might go about learning how to spin poi? I'll be moving home from uni in a few months back to the north east and am desperate for a new challenge and would love to give this a go but don't know where to start!
Any advice would be really really welcome!
Thanks in advance, all the best!Jo x
Hi everyone.

I'm trying to put together a couple sets of flag poi, but can't find big (8mm+) ball chain anywhere in town. I was wondering whether twisted chain would be an okay substitute -- any thoughts?

Thanks!
