Help with Moves :: RE: butterfly...Over head / behind back

If you are trying with 2 hands then I understand how it is, learnet it like 3 weeks ago myself.

my problem was I couldnt see where I placed my hands or how the poi ended up behind my back so my only suggestion is to practice to get the poi imediatly into right position behind your back and practise like that, it will eventually end up not hitting itself if you just adjust your hands after trying a while... tok me a while.

if anyone else have a good tip just share, this is just how I learnt and may not be the best way. (but still a tip for beginners.)

Hello again (^_^) Yeah hybrids were a nightmare for me to learn!! Was trying to do those since first MOTM meet in Brighton but only got it once I went I went up north to the second MOTM hehehe!

im trying to do a butterfly one handed behind my head i can do it no problem in front of me in either hand but whenever i try and do it behind my back the balls always collide and im not sure what im doing wrong, any suggestions?

yup i dabble i devilstick aswell
at the moment im learning the propeller thing around one stick and a diabolo move ive adapted for the stick the s-fan (if anyone diaboloes they'll see what i mean

ok first of all vertax genocides arent pariticularly hard, not nearly as hard as a 3d shuffle (3 diabolos goin round each other)
its not diablo its diab-o-lo
anyone else here actually a serious diaboloer whos been going for a while or are people just licking the lid so to speak

it still is my first day spinning as my poi arrived today
so far ive learnt that thing where youre hands and the poi cross your body then uncross (3 beat weave?)
that butterfly thing and am workin on angel wings right now

Glad that you enjoy the Poi so much :D I remember when I first started...god it was an addiction...still is

Yes the tuition on this site is so helpful! But keeps your eyes on the tuition pages. Some point in the near future we'll receive an entire cache of new tuition vids provided by members of our very own forum :D

But if you ever need help with a trick or anything then just post up on the forum. We'll be right there the help you out and get you back on the road!! (^_^)

By all means practice it my friend and do a video!! It'd be worth watching and you never know. It could really take off as a fresh new Poi style! I know many many bouncy people who love to jump around and such. So if this works then it'll make them very very happy indeed if they could play with Poi as well as be bouncy and happy hehehe!

I see what you mean with the flowing movement but I was thinking more speed the poi up as much as possible so that the beats of the jumps were at the same time as a certain point in the spins, like each time the poi reach the downward position is when the leg on the same side would be used for the jump. I know it might loose it's flowing appearance that way and just seem like someone messing around but it's just the way I see it in my head it comes out a bit different.

I've seen Poi in Thailand and was amazed straight away.
I Just bought my Poi last week, already love it ! Yesterday evening i played with fire the first time. Just some easy tricks but a great feeling

I'll keep practicing and will manage those impossible tricks once

Could be done I spose! Not sure how well the two would go together as Poi is more of a flowing movement rather than loads of jumpy short sharp movements if you see what I mean. If you were using double staff then I think it would work better. But with Poi... I'm not sure!

Well what needs to be said has pretty much been said so I'll just say...

Welcome to the forums my friend!

Don't forget to ask if you need anything at all! IE locations of various meets, festies, any poi tips you may need or if you just need help with a trick just give us all a yell and we'll be right with ya!

But if you're just starting into the lands of Poi then I'd recommend checking out the video tuition that the website offers. It's been a great help to many in the past and hopefully it can help you with all the basics etc!

I've just started to learn poi but I had an idea for something to mix it with to make performances a bit more interesting. If you know it then you might be able to see where I'm going with this, it's called jumpstyling, if you haven't heard of it there's a lot of video's on youtube showing it and one guy called patrick jumpen has a lot of tutorial video's for it. What do you all think of mixing the 2?
