If you've got four on one side, it means you've got half of a five beat weave.

Try to really concentrate on what your wrists do, then switch hands. I feel it helps to recognise what hand 'pulls' the other across each time, and what the poi in that hand is doing as it is pulling your hand across.

Practice and good luck!
need any more tips?

If shes doing split crossovers, getting her to do it REALLY slowly and then shouting "NOW!" when she's supposed to do the extra beat lol.

or maybe stand behind her and move her arms for her a few times with short poi so she gets the feel.

you mean crossers or crosssovers?

what i said in my previous post (crossovers) is what you might call a two beat weave.
The step everyone gets stuck in before they finally break free and nail 3bw

i taught my mate a 3bt weave 2day... she cud do the 2bt weave and i just got her 2 count to 3 as she did each beat and it just kinda clicked after a while... i think being musical helps cos u can understand timings and stuff... i was also trying 2 teach my other mate the 5bt weave but she just cant seem 2 get the wrist action... i put her onto the tuition part of this page cos it is the best tuition on the net (in my opinion!! lol) and it was the one that got me doing the 5bt weave...
crap iv written LOADS!!! i will stop now!

Bw 5bt is extremely difficult to get, but basically, from right to left, your left hand is wrapped around your right wrist and pulls it across.

Hope that helps.

So... its the hand on bottom that makes the extra rotation?

lol its so difficult to explain, the thing is, you're probably doing it right, but just think you arent because bw 5bw is a lot to do with getting it across your body at exactly the right time.

anyway...

so you're doing a 3bw reverse (do some stupid hand movement in fron of the computer for all of this)

when your LEFT hand usually does its SECOND beat on your right side, your right hand is usally already across your body yeah?

For a 5bw, to get into it you must LEAVE your right hand on your right side for an extra beat, this means your left arm wraps around your right arm

However, this wrapping is still only as the left does its SECOND beat, as the right poi makes the final beat on the right side.

You may be thinking, 'The hell jayne? thats only four beats on my right side, idiot' but this is because you came into it from 3bw, now if you continue the pattern on the opposite side over and over it will magically transform into a 5 beat weave.

Wow... I actually get it. I would kick myself in the head for not conceptually getting it until now, but the poi keep clocking me instead. But I can get it, and then I lose it, and then I have it... it just requires practice. Wink

Now my crew and I are trying to figure out letters. Fun!
