Hey your not a noob.
I have been doing poi for about a year now... and i only got reel's about a month ago... some of us just find certain moves harder.
My advice would be to keep practicing... a bore i know... but thats all i can suggest...
Im sure tutorial mistress Jayne will be along any minute to help you...

Haha, hello Poifect. AJ you know me too well.
I'd say for the OTH butterfly (angel wings) really make sure ou get your hands behind your head, not just abve it.
And when they are behind your head your wrists should be slightly twisted so your palms face the sky - don't glue your hands together like some people ha. |

If you are trying with 2 hands then I understand how it is, learnet it like 3 weeks ago myself.
my problem was I couldnt see where I placed my hands or how the poi ended up behind my back so my only suggestion is to practice to get the poi imediatly into right position behind your back and practise like that, it will eventually end up not hitting itself if you just adjust your hands after trying a while... tok me a while.
if anyone else have a good tip just share, this is just how I learnt and may not be the best way. (but still a tip for beginners.) |

For me, I couldn't get this at all until I realised that I was spinning the poi too fast. I slowed them down, got it so that they could do half a beat in front, and then moved them behind my head. The feeling when they went right was awesome...
Other than patience and practice though, there isn't a lot more I can recommend. Getting your hands right behind your head really helps too, because then they spin right. |
