isn't freestyle just freestyle? :P
Isolated tricks are brilliant for wowing people though. Try learning them with socks.

yeh with poi like jayne and lou said pretty much. i class it in the same catorgory as dance so you can either have a choreographed performance where you know exactly what move your doing next in a pre-meditated way.

OR

Freestyle where you make it up as you go along which is essentially practice and gives you more scope to learn new things and find different ways in which you can move/transition/dance etc. But then your freestyle is alway limited to the amount of moves you actually know not saying that in a bad way but for example people who have been poi'in for years can freestyle for well over like 6min theorectically not repeating moves (it has to be done to do some transitions n that) as compared to someone who can weave and butterfly for example. But in my eyes freestyling is like just letting your body and poi do the work and letting your brain switch off like meditation.
(has anyone ever had that btw? like just completely zone out whilst spinning. Feels mad as fook like, its the whole force your brain to concentrate on something menial so the rest can just thinks of nothing.)

I did that once or twice, it was quite scary, one min i was talkin to my mate, then the next he was walkin back to me and said "u still doin that? uv been at it for 15 mins" i was like :O it only felt like a 5 min free style shesh...

Crazy how the mind works...

innit man i was doin fire poi one minute just thinking what move to do next as you do and unknowingly went into some kind of meditive state came out of it and because i was doing a different move than i had planned before it really confused me and i had been spinning for about 10mins it was crazy felt good tho. My friend filmed it on his phone as well and was some of the best spinning i had seen myself do. lol nutty

Awesome! I find it helps with music, and sunglasses, weirdly. I think it's like a hiding thing for if you're in a public place people cant make eye contact with you properly which might throw you out of your zone. Sometimes you just wake up from a poi- trance where you think 'woah! that felt like 10 mins!' when it's ctually been half an hour lol.

And dude, don't get in a flap about needing moves. You can freestyle with only about 3 moves and make it look completely awesome. I was in a park once and there was drumming and one guy was really getting into it with jumps and spins and everything and then I realised all he was doing was weaves and corkscrews! Stretch up, bend down, jump, twist, jerk, you can do so much with one basic move. A great example is the butterfly variations. We have loads on the tut vids and you can do takeouts just about anywhere! So don't panic if you think you're outta moves, cos you have loads!!

yeh i know that like, i didnt mean it in that way, i know you can freestyle endlessly with 3 moves and it helps to create more moves but my point was that the more moves you know the more variation and longer you go without repitition. i know it sounds like ner ner kinda thing but it aint at all cos we all could only weave and butterfly once its just progression n it has to be done. When i first learnt them i did them constantly for hours lol.
