Been trying to get these for a while now, i just havnt got the co-ordination heh.

I can do normal reels, bw and fw and i can do shoulder reels with just my left hand, and also with just my right, but combining them just doesnt happen Laughing

Any tips for learning this? seems like its a prequiset for quite a few tricks, so something ill need to learn =/

I know the answer to this is probably a 'no', but some people work in reverse :P
Can you do a windmill? If so, shift your hands apart so they are on your shoulders (these are split shoulder reels), then parallel em up and bingo - shoulder reels.

if not, its good that you can do them individually. Nail the individual arms completely and then rather than just going straight into continuous shoulder reels, do about 3 beats in each plane, then when you're confident - reduce that to two - then reduce it to continuous.
Good luck!

lol, I was just going to ask about these until I saw this thread already existed!

I'm having exactly the same problem...I can do it with my right & left hands individually....but when I put them together they end up tangled behind my back.

Do people generally think that it's a matter of practice - I've not been spinning for a long time!

Any advice appreciated!! Ta!

Start off with hip reels and the shoulder reels will come to you really easily.

The poi spin parralel in order to perform reels, 1 spin in front and 1 spin behind. I used my left and right hips as markers for learning this move, you also have to remember to turn your body to make it easier.

Bring your poi over from the left side of your body to the right, turn into the poi so your almost face on with them but still make sure that the poi are going down towards your hips, as your right hand goes behind your back turn your body to the left so that the poi can come out of the left side of your body. Bring your right hand back to the front of your body and lead the poi out through the left hip, you can continue this by taking the poi straight over to the right hip again.....

I remember when i was learning this I stood dead still and I kept hitting myself lots and my friend told me to move with the poi from right to left and then after train yourself to move less once you got the move down...

Hope this helps but im bad at explaining things :(

Well i got these down a little while ago, the way i learnt them was to spin 2 circles in front of you at shoulder height, going the same way.
If you can do angel wings from here its pretty easy to get into, and i found once your into the movement, with a bit of practise its easy enough to carry on Smile
