Hi All,
I'm flying from Germany to UK soon and wondered if any of you have experianced problems with having poi with you on flights or in your luggage.
I know my glow and flags and sock will be fine but i worryed about my fire poi.
I have one set of pigtail poi and have lit them already (last night!!! for the first time Much fun :)lol) and now i am worried to put them in my luggage as they might get sniffed out and worried about putting them in hand luggage in case they get pulled out and i am stopped from flying. Do you think this would happen?
Help?

It can't go in hand luggage, my friend was pulled aside at the airport for carrying just a glow staff lol and he had to check it in as a separate piece of luggage as well as go through security! What i suggest is putting it in your hold luggage instead of your hand luggage.
Hope this helps!! |

I've taken pen knives, wooden knives, wooden materials and all sorts of spikey things through my main luggage (no i'm not some kind of assassin :P). I can't see the problem if they're in your main luggage (i.e. not hand luggage)..
To be extra safe if you're worried though put them in the tin they came in (did they come in a tin? If not never mind) and wrap it in lots of clothes and maybe a bag or two. |

I had a pair of poi in my hand luggage on the plane both to and from Geneva. No trouble at the UK end. The girl at Geneva pulled me aside for them (I imagine the big wooden beads I have for my handles looked pretty funny on the Xray). It wasn't a problem though. I just explained they were for "juggling" and after checking with someone else, they just let me through with a smile.
I'm not sure about fire poi. If nothing else, leave them somewhere warm (like out in the sun) to evaporate off any excess fuel still on them, then seal them tightly (a sandwich bag and some gaffer tape works a treat for this). If it's fire poi, I'd say definitely not your hand luggage. |
