|
|
| Another Forum wrote: | The world-famous Red Arrows have been banned from appearing at the 2012 London Olympics because they are deemed "too British".
Organisers of the event say that the Arrows military background might be "offensive" to other countries taking part in the Games. The display team have performed at more than 4000 events worldwide, but the Department of Culture, Media and Sport have deemed the display team "too militaristically British". Red Arrows pilots were said to be "outraged", as they had hoped to put on a truly world class display for the Games, something which had never been seen before. Being axed from a British-based event for being "too British" is an insult - the Arrows are a symbol of Britain.
The Red Arrows have been excellent ambassadors for British overseas trade, as they display their British-built Hawk aircraft all over the world.
The Arrows performed a short fly past in 2005 when the winning bid was announced, but their fly past at the Games was to have been truly spectacular.
It is to be hoped that common sense prevails

I used to be proud to call myself British, and to feel a part of what I thought was one of the greatest countries on earth, but if this goes through, I'm upping and leaving. his is no longer a country to be proud of. |

Damn.
I love the red arrows.
They show a spectacular demonstration of modern engineering, physics and prettiness.
They may be RAF aircraft but the things they do nowadays, although affiliated with the RAF, are more for show.
What else awesome does Britain have to offer?
I wish people would WAIT FOR A COMPLAINT before changing something for PC-ness.
I.E. I bet no epileptic EVER complained about the usage of the phrase 'brainstorm'.
People are too paranoid. |

for me i am proud to be british as are most british people for many reasons but seriously am losing faith in it and i have wanted out for a long time (to oz) hence why i started engineering.
It is stuff like this that disapoints me in what sort of irrational reasoning do they believe the red arrows to be too british. Will other countries not be offended by our flag? is that to go next.
secondly i now feel like a minority i feel britain is now catering for foriegners more than its own people which takes the pizzle!
could rant more but dont want to offend.
home time see you cats 2morrow |

Well, They say their taking the Scottish elements of the British Flag away if they declare themselves separate from Britain lol.
But that's just a rumor really.
Well I'm proud of my country, but I do feel slightly less proud of it lately. Especially if they remove the right for the Red Arrows, our countries finest, to fly, I mean you don't see other countries removing everything that makes them who they are at the end of the day.
Oh god I can see this turning into a flaming Britain thread soon lol. |

I'm proud of Britain. Some things are a bit wrong though. I also dont think the media help things when they blow stuff out of proportion.
I was reading a 'Letters' page in a paper the other day and I could just tell that one came from a completely media-brainwashed individual ranting about how 'Whites are now a minority in England' - which is a huge lie.
She was ranting about how 'England should have it's OWN anthem, not just GSTQ which is for all of Britain!'
What surprised me more was that the paper even published it.
(For anyone who hasn't got my angle - England DOES have its own anthem.) |

I agree with J, because of the media a lot of people would think that English people are outnumbered by other Ethnicities.
I mean this is only one example and not enough to base an argument on; looking at London today, it is crammed packed full of different ethnicities. Then they get blamed for a lot of crime when it is just blown out of proportion.
Just because that's happened in London it doesn't statistically mean that everywhere in Britain is exactly the same. |

Frankly, the thing I hate the most about the whole Olympic fiasco is that logo. I mean, what the hell? It's one of the ugliest things I've ever seen.
Shockingly bad reflection on us graphic designers, IMHO... |

precisely. people think that because britain has a lot of people in it that we can generalise, but london has a very unique culture and you cant generalise that.
haha it is a terrible design. |

Lol, Xan, we should come up with a new and better logo.
Then graffiti it En Masse onto the Olympic stadium!!
Yeah what is up with that logo anyways man? Do you think that is literally the best their superior group of GFX Designers could come up with?
I've seen better logos used for photoshop tutorials! |

ok maybe we aint a minority but, me and our lisa were homeless when she was pregnant non the less, she had been on the list for a council house since she was 15 and had plenty of points (it works on a points system for those who dont know its like 1 point a month and you need loads to get a house) we still havent got one luckily our families helped us out but it was still a very stressful time in our life because foreigners were given priority! There are is also a 'polish' shop near us that when it opened had the sign 'no english allowed' im not joking they did take it down after a week or so also the local morrissons warehouse no longer takes on new BRITISH employee's.
My point being that i do not have a problem with them living here that is there choice but it is when the government gives priority to others instead of looking after there own.
raaa im riled |
