I've been reading this thread with interest. Whilst I can see the benefits of coloured flames there are a few issues that need to be addressed.

1) The fact that you have all the necessary MSDS sheets will not satisfy the Health and Safety executive.

2) If you include chemicals in any public performance any public liability insurance will be void.

I just thought it worth mentioning

Ahh thanks Alan for the input. But we are aware of the fact that using hazardous chemicals in street performances wouldn't go down to well with H&S officials and the public liability insurance!

This is purely for personal use and amusement.
I wouldn't even bother trying to introduce potentially hazardous chemicals to public performances anyways without clearing it up with H&S officials first! To much hassle! Lol.

But again. Thanks for that.

My father used to make poi out of tin cans after the war. The cans were filled with kindling with bits added in for colour. He doesn't remember what these things were.

What he does remember is the noise these cans made due to the perforations in the side.

Perhaps somthing like a closed tea strainer filled with whatever will give the desired effect as the chemicals will shake out gradually.

Hmmm...does sound like a good idea. But the thing is finding a good sized tea strainer.

Plus (I may be wrong) but the amount of chemicals that seep out would be fairly low not giving much effect. Unless you attached them to the end of regular poi as a kind of "Additional" Effect.

So it would still majoritively be normal fire poi...kind of defeats the principal of the idea. But still a good idea none the less! *Makes notes*
