I found it easier to learn a move by working out how the move works then doing it with one poi then swapping hands and once you can do it easily with doing it one hand at a time try using both poi.
Hope this helps, it works for me. |

hey the trick to the 3 beat wave is addind a loop to the pois rotation on the opposite side (confussing no?) basicaly when you do a 2 beat wave your making half a cirle on each side of your body and using the other half of the rotaton to move the poi across your body to the opposite side, to get a 3 beat wave its the same principle but you keep the opposite poi there longer
so say you start right poi (rp) on ur right side going forward, when it reaches the top of the swing you move it across ur body to ur left side.
now in 2 beat you wait for it to get back to the top and pull it back across to it orriginal side (right)
in 3 beat you should add a whole loop befor moving it back
its is a really good idea to do it one handed the add the second hand when nessasery but don't forget 2 practise your 2 beat 2 or u'll end up 4getting it like me ^_^ ohh nd chack the tutision (u may have already but just checking) |

Hi there, I am new here, and very very new to poi having had a go while I was away on holiday...
I haven't been practicing too much... I have also been trying for a 3 beat and didn't realise that I was only doing a 2 beat...
I am having trouble grasping the concept of it with the extra loop.
Do the pois have to spin out of synch when you do it?
any tips for an ultimate beginner would be most welcome!! |

welcome loui
the way i learnt 3bts was to hold one arm out, then take the other hand with poi and go over the arm, under the arm, then back to the start
repeat this until u get the feel then go on other arm, over, under, out,
there are lots of tutorial videos on poipoi and all over the internet
3bts imo, was the hardest move to leanr because those who learn it are beginners and dont have a feeling for poi, when u get 3bts u can quickly progress to other more complictaed moves...
hugs and brew for loui

When the 3bt clicked for me, it became the simplest thing in the world.
For the forwards one, just watch which arm is on the top when you cross in your 2bt, and as the poi spin round, let them swap your arms over so the other one is on the top - which, of course, you then cross over to the other side and repeat the process. For the backwards one, replace "top" with "bottom".
I realised that and though "ohhhhh!" |

I felt like I had got it, I was doing it 3bt out of synch ok, but I don't seem to be doing the right thing with my hands.... I'm not doing the over-under-out, my right hand stays on top of my left (or at least if feels like it does) yet I feel like I am still doing the move. But I am sure it wouldn't look right at all! |

Im new too but recently learned 3bt, I started out with 2bt and noticed it was wrong and never in **** was I allowed to make the last bt. So I started out with 2bt weave and trading side for which one to cross the arms and kept going like that a while.
I sometimes tried to mix the hands and suddenly it was there. also try it a bit slow, not to much speed like me.
I now got controll over 3bt weave forward and backward. (after a serious nose injury ofc.) |
