I had exactly the same problem but the opposite way round and I think it's because my left hand is dominant but I'm not sure. I noticed that in every move I was always starting it with a certain hand (usually the left) or turning in a certain direction. When learning to do backwards weaves I thought of them as upside down versions of the forwards weaves and so I had to start with the opposite hand to the one which would normally lead into the weave.
The best advice I can give is to try practising 2 and 3 beat weaves and lead into them with the opposite hand than you're used to. Likewise with the butterfly make the opposite hand the dominant one. And also when doing reel turns try turning in the opposite direction to the one you usually would. It should make it a lot easier and a lot more natural when you attempt it in future.
Hope that helps |

I've been doing poi for a year now. I got my first poi for my 18th birthday but they broke in April so I haven't really had that much practise. I recently got back into it since I got my new poi. Now I have glow poi and angel wings
So yeah until recently I could only really do 3 beat weaves, The Butterfly, Takeouts, Reels and The Buzzsaw. Now I can do nearly everything in the tuition videos and 360 weaves and stuff. I've started going to the juggling circle near me and I've learnt quite a bit there. Now I'm learning how to juggle and unicycle. I'm going to be very bruised by the end of the year.
What about you? |
