Any tips on keeping planes flat where you want them to be?
I can do a few simple moves, but when it comes to something like hip reels, it looks like I'm spinning inside the leaning tower of pisa.
the stand there and make them flat approach isn't working - probably because it's reeeally boring. Is there another approach that might help. I can do hip reels with one hand, because I discovered I was turning my wrist the wrong way....perhaps another discovery like that?

hello there! right your on the right track. When doing your hip reels or any move where your planes are off, when you feel them going off keep them spinning but stop your arm movements and straioghten them, i know you have alrwdy tried this approach but it is the best as your muscles will remember which is good and bad! so after doing it until you get bored stop switch to another move or go and do summit else so your head can forget the bad technique and the muscles will remember the good. I cannot emphasise enough the importance of planes they are the key to fluidity and the difference between it looking good and bad. So uber good you are addressing it and the practice you put in with it now will automatically happen in the future.
So just stick at it :D

I seem to get to a point where my right hand gets all rebelious on me and will do anything but what I want it to (i'm left handed) I can make my left hand plane go round in a circle, under my arm and back round again - but the right will spin at the side. In front for a few seconds, but then it goes back off to the side and I can't get it back!
(hehe....that smiley is great!) |

Incase anyone else is struggling, I found a flat wall and practice spinning against it, see how close I can get to it. It's helping - I can get my knuckle right on the wall now. Not recommended unless you're REALLY easily amused - or if the only wall you can find is bare brick :ouch:
Edit: We discovered spinning in a really narrow space helps, too. Our laundrette is 3ft wide - after much beating of poi, myself and washing machines I can now do fountains in there!!
