Heys guys, I was wondering if someone could help me, I started poi nearly a week ago, Iv pulled off a fair few moves now and Im really enjoying it.

My girlfriends been doing poi for about a year now and we tried our hand at some photography yesterday with the help of some glow sticks attached to our poi.
I had a play around with shutter speeds and what not and just cant seam to get a good photo.

Iv had a little flick through the gallery and have seen some pretty funky photos, I was just wondering if anybody could help me out and share their knowledge.

You need to change the exposure time, not the shutter speed, the shutter speed changes time that the shutter is open and therefore changes the brightness. What camera you have? only the top end digital camera that have manual settings can change the exposure, but fingers crossed, check the instructions or whatnot =]

...That's not strictly true. I've seen cheap cameras that you can change the exposure on Confused

But yeah exposure is the way forward with making good shots. Try having it on a tri-pod if possible. Stops any other background light messing up the photo.

If you have a proper cam tho where you can adjust the exposure by the second. Then usually I aim for 2-4 seconds. That's usually more than enough! Any more than that and it looks just like a big ball which isn't the best looking of photos!

Unless of course your taking pictures of wire wool spinning. Set the exposure to quite high. Then it makes for an awesome photo!

For fire breathing you want it fairly low again. Because the flame dissipates very quickly. If you give it 3-4 seconds it gives enough time for the performer to take his breath and shoot.

Ah I see Smile, Il have a little mess around with exposure settings too, its not a very high end camera but I believe I can still change it.
Im pretty sure Iv got a tri-pod hiding away somewhere too, not sure whether it will fit my camera or not though, are they a universal attachment?

yeah, they have a little fitting plate on the tripod which comes off, then you screw the plate into the hole in the bottom of the camera and then put it back on the tripod Smile

Need to get a new camera soon!! Anyone got any recommendations for a budget of £400? Can go a little bit higher if it's necessary and definitely worth it!
