Sup y'all
So this morning, I wake up to a beautiful warm sunny day. After breakfast, my daughters wanted to go play at a nearby park. This was good for me, cause on the other side of the park is a hardware store, and I wanted to go scope the place out for swivels anyways. I brought my poi along for the ride.
We first went to the hardware store, where I did find some swivels. Turns out the eyelets on them are too small for the nylon cord I use for my poi, so I will have to get some smaller cord. But anyways, we went to the park after my stop.
I live in Canada and despite the fact that it was a very mild winter, we did get a lot precipitation and there is still 2 feet of snow on the ground in some places. Fortunately, in the middle of the park here is a small hill with no snow on it. Getting to it was hard though because it was warm and water had pooled at its base. It was worth getting my feet soaked I had a warm breeze on my face and a great view.
While my girls played, I spun. I only started poi a few months ago, so most of the practice I've had has been indoors where I have to worry about a ceiling overhead. Practicing outside in my big winter coat is too restrictive. I was really able let loose and stretch out. It was great.
Well, about a half hour into the session, I notice out of the corner of my eye this guy heading my way. I knew he really wanted to talk to me cause he wade through a nice pool of water to get to me. He came up and introduced himself. He was a reporter for a local news paper. Its a smaller news paper that only gets published once a week, but it gets distributed to all homes for free. He said his job was to drive around and find interesting things and people and today he found me.
He asked me a bunch of questions about what I was doing and what poi was, how long I've been practicing and all that. Then he asked if he could take some pictures of me. I agreed, and he had my daughters come up and stand in the background as I spun. With the shutter speed his camera worked at, he must have taken hundreds of pictures. He told me that unless he find something more interesting between the park and his house, that I would be making his column!
So, hopefully next week I will be seeing myself spinning in the news paper (call "Sault This Week") |
