I mean what is it about this that keeps you all busy and doing this stuff... standing a field spinning stuff... Do you all so this in your spare time ? Do you work durring the day time and stuff... Seems like a nice hobby but what value does it add to your lifes is it the community thing.. the feel good factor ? I mean how does this thing enrich your life.. |

Good question. Heres my opinion.
Its a good way to increase your coordination. My badminton skills have increased tenfold since I begun Poi.
Its a good way to stay healthy. It might not look like much, but if you spin for an hour, your arms will be telling you about it when your done.
Its a very challenging hobby, one that looks easy. but in reality is very different, Its incredibly frustrating when you cant do a new move, but even more so rewarding when you finally crack it.
Its unusual, and people tend to enjoy watching it.
Its just a good hobby if you like doing something different. |

hi, I thought i'd add my 2 pence worth.
I enjoy it as i have terriable hand eye coordination.
So it helps with that, it also helps me unwind after a stressful day at work ( when i was working)
It fills the time when i am waiting for a bus/ train / band.
I feel rewarded when i master something new no matter how small it is, which is always nice.
It gives me focus when i am not working, something to fill the day with so i have a reason to get up.
It looks fab.
Poi has also helped me make a connection with some of the nicest people i would have not met any other way.
Fact. |

Well I thought I'd throw in my 2p as well seeing as everyone else is! :D
Poi, for me, started out as just something I did every weekend with a couple of friends in the back garden! Having fun playing with fire and eating Arctic Roll! (^_^)
But then when all me friends went to uni I had to seek out other people who did it to continue. Then found just an awesome online community which lead to me learning more Poi, picking up other juggling and spinning stuff and eventually when the meets were getting arranged I met and made friends with some of, if not, the best people I know lol! Seriously. :D
I also work in an office lol! I work in Landscape Architecture and have been for the best part of 3 years!
It's a great hobby for me and one day, hopefully, something on the side that I can earn money with doing gigs and maybe making my own brand of equipment.
Plus any form of object manipulation is good for you!
- Great for the hand eye co-ordination.
- Great for all of your muscles. As AJ said if you do a couple of three hours of good spinning then you'll know about it the next day :D
- Helps people who are less able than others with conditions such as Dyslexia and Dispraxia work on their hand eye co-ordination and muscle memory which is always recommended by people like your GP and such!
- Helps get rid of unwanted hair
- Very good for the brain as well!
Plus at the end of the day it's just a fantastic hobby in my opinion.
It's opened up a whole world of new friends, new music and taking much more of a positive look on life! Whereas before I just lay about the house not doing anything exciting other than playing games and generally vegetating! |

well for me poi has saved my sanity.
I have not had the best of times the last couple of years. While your spinning your in a world of your own its a form of meditation a way to focus my mind.
Its also very good physio for my ankle as I tend to move around a lot while I spin
as everyone has said its great for hand eye coordination and good for the muscles and brain to learn new things
It also helps with self confidence performing infront of peeps is a great feeling
its stoped me smoking so much cos I poi instead
I have also met some of the nicest peeps who have been a shining light to me
The list could go on...
but most of all its bluming good fun esp when you get good enough to do fire poi.
hahahahah bet you wished you never asked but as you can we love poi!!!!!!!
but if you dont get it then thats fine too your intitled to your own opinion
do you think it looks good or like my mum says once youve seen it youve seen it (if that makes sense)
huge hugs and have a brew |

i agree with everyones comments above so im not gonna repeat em bar one - the friends you make through it and the random mishes to go see em and just chill and poi are priceless imo :D
But you if you watch a few different people poi'in you will notice different styles, i think its amazing how everyone using the basis of the same tricks can convert it into individuality and an unique expression of themselves - silent poetry! |
