Hey,
My name's Anthony and I'm just getting started with poi. My friend introduced it to me and I must say I'm a bit uncoordinated....at least with my left arm. I'm not looking to shoot the moon but any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Hey there Anthony!
Hmmm...well the best thing that helped me during my practicing when I just started was to:
A) Practice with other people who do Poi. This helps you to see what their hands are doing when they do certain tricks. They can also give you some helpful pointers about the movements as well.
B) Break the trick your trying to learn down. If it was a weave, for example, then you can break it down into two halves. The movement of your hands from right to left and then vice versa.
C) Once you learn a trick. Practice it often after you've learned it. This will help your muscle memory and coordination.
D) Study the video tuition that some websites offer you.
This website has an ever expanding set of decent tuition videos that have always been a great help to beginners.
Other sites you may want to look at for tuition are:
Feuershow
- note that although the site is in German. It has an English set of tuition videos
Domorepoi
Both of these sites have a decent extensive set of tuition videos to look at!
E) Perhaps video yourself. Take a video of what you're doing then compare it to a tuition video of the same trick. Usually the tuition video will have the trick slowed down so that you can see what the hand movements are. Just compare the two and see where you are going awry.
I hope that these tips help you on your quest for Poi knowledge!
Best of luck!
