what i reckon, and i'm trying to be psychic here, is that when you practice them individually - you're doing them in opposite directions because this feels 'the same' in different hands. I.E. when you spin a shoulder reel with your left hand it will be clockwise, but it will be anti clock wise in your right hand.
Make sure you are learning to spin them BOTH in one direction (pick the one your least-used hand likes the best) and once you've nailed that - move on to doubles.
Unfortunately if you're already doing that - practise practise practise! |

my friend taught me how to do this one and for some people its easier to start out in the part where the poi is behind your head.
another tip is have them swinging at the same time and moving behind you at the same time. |
