Ok, an isolation is where the point of rotation moves from the hand to anywhere along the poi.
Where the poi normally spin from your hands (fingerloops) an isolation changes this to be in the middle of the string (sock).
Is that helpful??? |

| errr an isolation is basically isolating the head of the poi at any point or making it look like it is. So say you spin a circle your hand will chase where the poi goes. so when you spin the poi forward you make a circle with your hand, chasing the poi head. i will try get a video for you tomorrow or something with a better explanation |

Not neccessarily....
To isolate the head is a very hard thing to do. What people do when isolating is to isolate the middle of the poi (note: isolations are pretty much impossible with tail poi - what your lessons seems to contain).
For example if I have a stick, and I hold one end of it and swing it around - this is normal spinning. Say now I grab the middle of the stick and start spinning. I am now holding the middle point of the stick and spinning it. The centre of rotation is the middle.
Ok so now we have the centre of rotation going. We're going to try and get the same centre of roation we had by holding the end. At which point we forget that we are holding a stick and pick up a sock poi.
Now the hand movemant to get a poi isolated feels very weird at first, but with a little practice it should start to feel naturle.
Start with one poi first and put the other down. Isolated buzzsaw is a good one to start with. Same plane as normal buzzsaw.
Your hand does a bicycle movemant. Focus on keeping the middle of the poi the centre of rotation.
Now practice the other hand. When you feel you have got both smoth pick up both poi together.
Remember the bicycle movemant. Your hands are moving in split time (when one is at the top, the other is at the bottom).
Par Examplé
The blue poi head should always stay right next to the hand holding the red poi, and visa versa.
There are many other moves you can icorporate isolations into, but this one is just to get you started!
Hope that helps! I know its a bit of a long winded explenation, but its the best I can come up with at 9 in the morning! |

aimee,
thank you, thats a better explaination than i could think of! I LOVE your diagram :D I will be using socks for some of the remaining moves which will hopefully be up in the next few days. I may use some of your text if thats ok??
