Hi there, I've only been using my poi for a week or so, but I'm really getting into it and am just about able to dance with them and keep it fairly varied now, even if it's changing between a couple of moves, but anyway yeah it seems like I'm learning most with music on letting myself get lost in it, does anyone else prefer poi with music? what kinda music works for people?? I'd be really interested to know
for some reason this trance music seemed to help, but I don't like trance, which is slightly annoying...

Its so true- poi with music is awesome. Everytime I do poi I prefer to listen to music as well. It gives the mood and lets your mind be creative- eurgh I sound like an art teacher!
I really like listening to Nightwish (although it is really fast!), Prodigy, Evanescence and lots of techno!!!
Its a shame you don't like trance- cos poi goes superbly with it! |

well I'm beginning to like it (good trance is good obviously I guess I stumble upon the sh*t all the time), but I rekon its gonna be a poi-only kinda music for me, love a lot of breaks and d+b though that can be a little too fast
I started 5beat weavin today, woo! only been doing it a week but it's so easy to get lost in.
also you know the with 3 beat weave you have say your right poi goes round twice on the left then your left goes twice on the right, it looks kinda cool to sometimes have just the right poi (or left!) doing double speed to the left poi and on the outside on each side, you kinda have to bring the right poi slightly ahead in terms of speed, crossing over before the left poi, well I do, but yeah looks nice
my dream now is to do the 9beat, that looks so nice to do |

I usually have Trance on while poiing, what kind of trance I put on really depends on the mood.
Varies between tech-trance, to psytrance/Full on to normal commercial trance or even some house.
And yepp alot of crappy trance do indeed exist, but there is alot nice aswell, just have to dig around for it |

All depends on my mood, I often find myself listening alot to the darker verisons.
"Dark Soho" or "Cydonia" for example, while sometimes I go for something completely diffrent and more melodic.
Then the "Shiva shidapu" or "muses rapt" - "Spiritual healing" is a pretty nice tune to jump around to
If I want normal commercial trance to the spinning then "Chemistry - We are One"
Funny how the personality of the spinning changes with the music! |

hey now, what about Daft Punk or the Chemical brothers? Tasty, tasy poi music right there! Real nice selection and everything.
My two favourites are:
Denmark - Chemical Brothers
Crescendolls - Daft Punk
Yeah! Poi without music is like strawberries without cream, or shoes without feet! |

chemical brothers surely do rock up the poi fun, i like (the art of)breaking up, a little simple but also just a cool track to use,
if you know the portishead cover of 'waiting for the night' thats cool, if not check out
so where do you spin? |
