I can stall downwards easy, and i'm getting the hang of horizontals, but upwards stalls!? i SOOOO want to be able to do that crazy 'make a box shape with an upwards and a downwards stall' move, but upwards stalls are just surpassing me.
Please help! |

| When the poi is straight up, push your hand upwards and try to keep the chains/socks straight, or with some tenson. |

Stalls are really getting to me aswell now, trying to stall with the left hand whilst still spinning with the right *lol*
I end up stalling the right while still spinning the left, really confusing :P |

| Yeah. Learning one arm at a time helps me with loads of things. I can just about to upward stalls now. I've progressed onto trying weird little crowd pleasers now that I've got my basics (weaves, butterflies) down. I love the fun shapes you can make. Isolated buzzsaws and airwraps look so fantastic, people love them :D and it makes you feel good that you can do something so psychedelic to the eye. |

hmm vertical antigravity stalls... right if you can do isolations perfect then thats most of the battle won. spin a normal circle and then isolate for the last bit and stall and reverse it (if you wanna get all math like about it then you spin the circumfrance of the circle and come off in a tangent and reverse it)
just practice it loads and itl happen
and yes my spelling is terrible |

Was about to post about this, but luckily saw the topic.
I Started working on stalls after I saw this inspirational video.

After reading through this thread, I see that my approach is wrong. I thought I had trouble synchronising my hands, but apparently I need to keep them individual & seperated.
I'll try it anyway, and yes, I simply NEED to do those anti-gravity stalls!!!!! |

Firstly, the right hand is alot easier to stall with then the left, the left will always want to keep spinning. This is where you need to concentrate because it takes alot of practice on the left hand, my right hand stalls are perfect but the left has something to be desired.
I know what your going on about with the boxes, to practice i tend to let the poi stalling upright hit the opposite arm and sit on it, this lets you work out when to stop the stall and pull back, when you got the hang of it you should then be able to pull the poi back without it hitting your arm. At this point you should know that if you hit your arm the moves gone wrong but its a good starting point, you know your doing it right when you can pull it beck before it hits your arm.
Remember you can go into hip reels and shoulder reels from the stalls which gives you good reason to stall, reel, stall, and reel so that your getting a constant practice. I also like to leave them to spin parallel in front of me so that i can catch the timing of the move.

Felixwah and I have some sort of little competition going on with vertical stalls at the moment, proof needs to be shown though... |
