Hi

I just found this site and I'm stoked about the video clips breaking down so many tricks! Thanks to the people who put that together!

I just started spinning about two weeks ago and I'm having a blast! I'm amazed at how quickly I've progressed by just spending time trying new things every day.

If any of you are in New Orleans, or near there, let me know. We are organizing a regular get together. Smile

Be well!

Thanks for the welcome, Tony!

I was first exposed to poi while taking a Reiki class at Breitenbush Hot Springs in Oregon this past spring. One of my classmates had a set of glowpoi at the bonfire one night and offered to let me play with them. Not long after that, I started going to the biweekly firejam in Portland, until I moved down to Louisiana last month.

I've only had the chance to make a set of practice poi and really get to it for the last two weeks, but I'm coming along nicely. I didn't expect to be able to progress as rapidly as I have, but I've been working with the Pele's Element DVD, which is a kick ass beginner's video, and it has helped tremendously.

At the moment, I am using a set of homemade tennis ball/stocking poi and I'm curious what it will feel like when I start working with the glowpoi I'm getting for Xmas. The ones I'm using are SUPER stretchy (which is kind of cool in some ways, and kind of not in others).

As for whether I'm any good at forum games, I suppose it depends on what the game is. :P

Nice to meet you! I look forward to talking with everyone here. It seems like a very friendly place. Smile

Hi Davey

Nice to meet you! I suppose it depends on what part of the US you visit as to how amazing it is. LMAO. I just traveled cross country to move to New Orleans, Louisiana from Portland, Oregon and there were stretches of it that bored me to tears. But then there are places most people think of as hideous that are actually quite beautiful, like New Jersey (get off the turnpike and it's another world).

I was over your way years ago, though we didn't get to Canterbury. I was with a geography class for 6 weeks traveling north from london up to the highlands and back. It was an amazing trip! I hope to get back one day. There are so many places I want to travel to, but its hard because money burns a hole in my pocket. Laughing

Welcome swirly girly. Even your username makes me smile :D

If you come over come visit brighton! I've never been to the US so I can't say 'It's the __________ (insert really awesome US city name here) of England' but I'm sure you'd like it just the same.

Got any moves you want help with?

Thanks, PN! It's funny, I took that name because a friend of mine once called my artwork "aggressive swirlies". I was thinking the other day how it's nifty that it translates so well into dancing and spinning. Very Happy

I'm glad you can't say that Brighton is the __________ of England, because then I wouldn't have any reason to travel over there to see it! ;-) I'm sure it's wonderful, as there were very few places we went (and we went to a lot of places) that I didn't fall in love with.

"Got any moves you want help with?"
Yeah, all of them! Laughing I'm wanting to do some BTB stuff and some flowers, but I'm afraid it may take "in person" instruction. If I come up with anything specific that I don't get, I'll be sure to post it. Thanks for asking!

What are you studying?

Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Psychology at AS level.

It makes me sound like such a science head... But I absolutely love art. I'm not just all boring and scientific :P

Not to worry...I know you science people can be freaky! Razz One of my best and longest friendships has been with a polymer science/math geek. He is one of the most outlandish people I know, and one of my personal heroes. When we were in college, we did all of these stuffy experiments, like what happens when you fill a styrofoam cooler with water, tape it shut, and throw it down a concrete stairwell. All in the name of science, of course. Laughing
