Ok hints and tips for me.
I have been told to condition them for 24 hours by BenH before the first use.
And again for one hour before every spin.
WHat about letting them go out? Some sites say you shouldnt let them burn down, you should put them out with a damp cloth before they get that far?
Or leave them to go out and cool with cloth :S
And then someone said they should have parrafin on them at all times even when not being spun to keep them going for longest.
Hints and tips before tomorrow would be great, cos then i go away for a week :D |

deffo dont put ur wicks out with a damp cloth etc, u can cool ur chains with water ( as it strengthens them)
best thing to do is just let them burn out, wait about 1 min for them to cool, then re dip them in parafin ready for ur next burn....
if u finished spinning then u got nothing to worry about, just let them cool and pack them away,... there is no need to keep them constantly in paraffin, ive head my heads about 6 month, and they where used like every night over summer and at least once a week till recently and they are still fine...
also where in preston are u Aj? i live up at ashton off tulketh, once u back from ur trip we shud hook up for a spin, as saw another post by u sayin u had no spinners near u...well thats cause i stole them all :P there about 5-6 of us regular poi/staff/devil stick and we run a meet every full moon,,, wasnt at last one but we had about 100 people turn up... not all spinnin tho, |

if it's not too rude to interrupt, i'll give my advice lol
What I do with poi is soak them for at least 24hrs before their first ever spin, and then just do 5 minutes for each consecutive spin. Including ones on days afterward.
I let my poi burn out, but then i damp them with a cloth on the floor whilst they're smoking.
Also, when I'm packing up, I soak my poi in paraffin for 2 mins and then spin the excess off just to stop them becoming dry. |

ahhh u all do it different to me :( yes someone had to be different why the hell not me (^_^)
well not completely different, i pre-soak my wick for 24hr also, well, after i've tinkered with them a bit, made sure their clean and not to many frayed ends. and yeah also pre-soaking them before i start, but it not nessercary to do it for an hour i think, although you can if u want just to be sure!
but in terms of putting them out after a spin, i'll usually spin until theres barely a flame left, then ill quickly blow the flame out and dunk them, then after i've pulled them out i'll leave them on a damp cloth (not wrapped, just layed on it, depending where i am, so wicks dont get any crap on 'em! |
